Legal Assistance for students is offered on behalf of Studentenwerk Leipzig and provided by Jens Müller Lawyer of the law firm SAMMLER & MÜLLER. If you want to receive legal assistance, presenting your student ID card is mandatory. The consultation is individual, free of charge and financed through semester fees.

Principles of Legal Assistance

  • quick consultations / approx. 15 minutes per person
  • please bring all necessary documents regarding your specific concern
  • one consultation per concern (initial consultation)
  • if you are already represented by a lawyer, you are not allowed to use the service
  • no group consultations

If you're looking for advice on one of the following topics, please refer to our Social Counselling department:

  • general advice on social benefits (unemployment benefit, housing benefit, child benefit, parental benefit, etc.)
  • general advice on social insurances (e.g. health insurance)
  • public broadcasting license fee (formerly GEZ)
  • regulations on working as a student and studying

We are extending our Legal Assistance offer by a telephone office hour for students with children.

On one Thursday per month consultation via telephone will be offered from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. after booking an appointment online in advance. One appointment lasts 30 minutes. You can ask questions on the topics of studies, children and financing. If you like, Legal Assistance can also take place in person in the rooms of the law firm. Please prepare your questions properly and provide all relevant documents you need. Presenting your student card is mandatory.

We will be conducting the telephone office hour deliberately in the evening hours in order to enable the student parents to use the consultation offer while their children are sleeping.

  • The dates at one glance: May 25, June 22, July 27, August 24, September 28, October 26, November 30, 2023

For problems arising from their particular circumstances, students can seek brief legal information directly from the Studentenwerk. Detailed legal advice is not provided. Furthermore, no information is provided on tax, university, examination or residence law issues or on questions relating to the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).

Information is only provided by telephone or e-mail. Consultation hours or on-site appointments are not available.

Leisure accident insurance for students

During their studies and vocational training, students have a compulsory accident insurance. However, the accident insurance coverage is very strictly limited to the university or educational institution and its direct area of influence. Studentenwerk Leipzig has therefore concluded an additional leisure accident insurance. For further information, please contact versicherungen {{ätt}} studentenwerk-leipzig {{punkt}} de.
