Photo Exhibitions & Photo Competition

We love snapshots.

Students can exhibit their photographs at Studentenwerk Leipzig. In addition, a photo competition is organised every two years together with other Studentenwerk insitutions.

Students who would like to show their photographs in an exhibition are welcome to apply to Studentenwerk Leipzig. 24 frames sized 59.4 x 84 cm each can be shown in the exhibition spaces in the hallways of the 1st and 2nd floor at Goethestraße 6. The exhibitions are usually shown for two months.

The exhibitions are financed by Studentenwerk Leipzig’s Cultural Funding.

The student photographers must be enrolled in one of the eight Leipzig Universities/Academies, which are associated with the Studentenwerk Leipzig, for the whole course of the exhibition.

Studentenwerke Photo Competition

Since 2008, the East German Studentenwerke have been hosting a joint photo competition, which takes place every two years and is organized by another Studentenwerk each time. The competition addresses all students of universities, universities of applied sciences, and art schools under the responsibility of the involved Studentenwerke.

In 2018 the photo competition themed “Yes we change” hosted by Studentenwerk Thüringen took place. In July 2018, almost 2,000 people took part in the first online voting in the history of the Studentenwerk photo competition. The winners study in Dresden, Rostock and Halle.

Since 2020, the contest could not take place due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

More information is available on the photo contest website.

Franco-German Photo Competition

Students with a passion for photography in 2023 again had the opportunity to take part in the Franco-German Photo Competition. The photo competition is organised annually and is dedicated to a specific subject. The contest was looking for photos that depict the subject in a creative and unconventional way.

The German-French Photo Competition is organised in collaboration with the German Studentenwerk, the CNOUS (National Association of Student Unions in France), the german Studentenwerke and Studierendenwerke and the CROUS (Student Unions in France) with the kind support of the Deutsch-Französisches Jugendwerk.

Students could register for participation via the website of the Franco-German Photo Competition. There they could upload all documents for the application and the photo they selected for the submission.

In 2023, the 8th Franco-German photo competition took place on the theme of FREEDOM. Altogether 350 students from Germany and France submitted their works. We are pleased to announce that the second place of 500 euros went to Yuliia Pozniak who is studying German as second and foreign language at Leipzig University, with her work “Dancing woman”. We are very happy and would like to congratulate Miss Pozniak warmly to this success.

Further information as well as the winner photos can be found on the website of the competition. As soon as there are information on the competition 2024, they will be announced on this page.
